What is a Monolid and Why Do Asians Care So Much?

Monolids, it's the kind of a mystery that people who are not of asian oriental descent often wonder about. Basically, a monolid means that your eyes will not create a full crease going below your brown bone area. A non-monolid person will have a fold on their eyes that significantly folds inwards into their eye sockets where a crease is often noticeably differentiated. Most people who are not oriental will have a non-monolid feature also know as double eyelids. Now this does not mean that you have a double eyelid in a literal aspect, it just means that your eyelids folds inwards, and a single monolid person does not, it's often flat when open.

Of course it is not completely accurate to assume that all oriental Asians have monolids, some have double eyelids, maybe on a smaller scale, but is still consider a double eyelid. Eye shapes and sizes come in all different kinds, having a monolid does not automatically mean you have small eyes, and having double eyelids does not mean you have bigger eyes. The opening of the eye is independent of the fold or crease that you have or don't have. A person with double eyelids, may have small eyes, and small crease lids, so naturally that person would still have small eyes. On the flip side, a person with single eyelids or monolids may lack the fold, but the opening of the eye is large enough to appear that the person has large eyes.

So why do so many Asians become obsessed with having a double eyelid and even go under the knife to alter their eyes so that they can appear to have a crease? Well it's actually quite simple, the crease make the eyes appear softer, and more open. Remember that whole craze about having animated eyes like the ones you see in japanese cartoons. Those japanese cartoon eyes look absolutely cute and stunning. When you look into someone's eyes with double eyelids, you can easily get lost into them, the beautiful crease and easy application for makeup, and even the fact that you can see it clearly in pictures all makes the obsession with eyelids so worth it.

But maybe it's not really necessary to go for surgery, perhaps there are other less permanent ways. Some asians use crease stickers to put on their eyelids so that when you open your eyes, you see a small crease. But the sticker itself feels very unnatural and uncomfortable around the eyes. Also using these types of tools can create early wrinkles around the eyes, so you probably want to look into other options. From my personal experience, makeup is the easiest and less permanent way to alter your eyes. You can create an illusion that you do have a double eyelid fold by simply drawing it on and blending it out to perfection. It's not hard, there are plenty of tutorials that you can use on youtube to help you achieve that look. I've had monolids all my life, and I've learned to appreciate monolids in a different way. Here's why you should love having monolids.

1) less wrinkles around the eyes
2) more room to shape the size of your double eyelids
3) you will look younger than your fellow double eyelid friend as you age

Look, I've struggled with liking my monolids for years, but I've learned to love them because I've found several ways to make them look fabulous. Plus I could really appreciate the slow aging around the eye area. As some of you might still be in your teens, but if you are looking to stay young forever, it's better to have single eyelids, trust me! Now if you are wondering how you can make your eyelids look double by using makeup, I've created this epifold makeup tutorial to help millions of people to find their  way to monolid satisfaction. In the tutorial I'll show you how to create the illusion of having a beautiful double lid crease. Don't worry it's not hard, simply follow my instructions :)!
